You've decided to visit a new destination . . . now what? Do you join a tour or do you rely on your own resources? Do you spend hours surfing countless websites for hotels, restaurants and activities or do you trust in the infinite knowledge of a tour operator to plan every detail of your trip?
Let's face it, we all love vacations. While some enjoy the planning as much as the vacation, others simply want to reap the benefits of someone else doing all the work. Before planning your next destination vacation, ask yourself these questions: 1.) What kind of traveler am I?, and 2.) What do I want from this vacation?
Some people already know their travel personality. For example, I love researching my destination prior to reaching it. I take great pleasure in visiting places around the world and taking in local attractions, museums, art galleries and history tours. I enjoy spending time with the different people and cultures of the world. My parents, on the other hand, will only go to familiar places with familiar faces. Strangers frighten them and new experiences are simply too uncomfortable.
If you enjoy the planning as much as the vacation, strolling through meandering streets discovering hidden treasures, and mixing it up with the locals in a local pub, then traveling alone may be your style. However, if you prefer to leave the planning to someone who knows the destination, to get the most of your time seeing and learning about historical sites, and spending time with others who share your same interests, then a guided tour may better fit your travel personality.
