Back in the day, a fight not only depended on the ability of the fighter, but the caliber of the weapon as well. The swords from Toledo had a reputation of being the most dreadful in the world because of the hardness of the steel. The origin of these swords is from more then 2,000 years ago when they were forged with an iron blade and designed to increase the bluntness of the slash. As time went on, more focus was put on the technological process and not just the quality of their steel. Soon, the quiet town of Toledo would find itself producing swords for Kings all over the world.
Today, swords are one of Toledo's attractions. One workshop, in particular, makes beautiful handmade swords. The artist is Mariano Zamorano. If you find yourself making a purchase, allow the shop to ship it home for you (you can't take it on the plane!).
