Now this is a vacation...I have strolled a coastal pathway, allowed the sounds of crashing waves lull me into a nap, and watched the sun set over the 18th hole. Located 30 minutes south of San Francisco, the Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay is truly a special place.
This resort receives high accolades from travel experts for its spectacular views, coastal golf greens, and top-rated spa. Yet, there are other attractions in Half Moon Bay that make this destination one of my favorite weekend getaways:
1. The historic downtown is filled with dozens of boutiques, galleries, antique stores and restaurants, just five minutes from the resort.
2. Purissima Creek Redwood Park features miles of scenic hiking trails through some of America's oldest forests.
3. Maverick's Beach is world-famous for surfing (and surfer-watching).
4. Ano Nuevo, a 4,000-acre State Reserve, is a major gathering area for northern elephant seals year-round. The park also offers scenic hiking and walking paths along the coast.
Not a bad way to spend a day, wouldn't you agree?
