I promise. I didn't scramble my photo library and post a pic of a German village. This is La Petite France, a district in Strasbourg, France, dating back to the 16th century and where the city's millers, tanners and fishermen used to live.
There is a lot of German influence in this town -- you even hear a little of the language spoken! From its name to the half-timbered houses, beer and choucroute (sauerkraut), the city definitely blends German culture in with the French. Either way, La Petite France is one of Strasbourg's prettiest neighborhoods with lots of timeless charm.
Today, the old houses and mills have turned into hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops. Yet, strolling through the cobblestone alleys and waterside promenades is a wonderful way to spend a day. While passing through, don't miss Les Ponts Couverts and the Cathedrale de Notre Dame.
