Rarely do I have much to say about a hotel. As long as the room offers the basics, is clean and the staff is friendly, I'm fairly happy. I have a lot to say about Baltazar Budapest!
Prior to my trip, I notified the hotel that I would be checking in late. My plane wasn't scheduled to land in Budapest until 10:00 pm. The response was quick and conveyed that there was no concern about my late arrival and they looked forward to welcoming me. Sure enough, it was well after 11:30 when I got there. I was quickly and warmly greeted and walked through the check-in process.
Only have eaten airplane and bad airport food over my 35 hours of travel to Budapest, I arrived at the hotel starving. I asked the hotel staff if we could grab something from their restaurant. We were informed the restaurant was closed but they could put together some goulash and warm bread for us. I felt a little guilty accepting but my stomach insisted that I do!
The only remaining waiter met us with a smile and proceeded to offer us local wine and all the soup and bread we wanted. There was no rush or bother about it. He seemed genuinely happy to serve us and make us feel at home.
This gracious service seemed to be standard fare for Baltazár as it was our experience every day. I was quite impressed with the staff's work ethic, friendliness and willingness to help. The restaurant was about as charming as they come and the food was exceptional. When someone at home asked me what my favorite food was on the trip, I had to honestly say it was Baltazár's burger! Go figure!
I was traveling with a friend and we chose a two-bedroom suite. It was impeccably furnished, very quiet , and the beds were the most comfortable I've ever slept in across Europe.
The hotel is located in the Castle district on the Buda side. At first I was concerned that its location would be a little inconvenient since everyone seems to spend most of their time on the Pest side. Turns out, the location was great! We were near a metro, surrounded by fabulous restaurants, and practically next door to some of the most spectacular sites in Budapest.
Like I said, I have a lot--a lot of good things--to say about Baltazár Budapest. I highly recommend a stay and a meal (or several) there.
